Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Sierra Pro comes with 17-inch steel wheels, manual adjustable exterior mirrors, LED headlights, LED taillights, and LED daytime running lights. Step up to the SLE for alloy wheels, the lockable MultiPro six-function tailgate, and power-adjustable side mirrors. The SLT adds to this with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting in the bed, and LED fog lights. The off-road capable AT4 has an off-road suspension, skid plates, and twin-tube Rancho Shocks.
GMC offers the Sierra 3500 in the upscale Denali trim, too. It has 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior trim elements, side steps, a power-sliding rear window, and the option for a power sunroof.
Engine (Power)
The base engine for the Sierra 3500 is a 6.6-liter V-6 gas engine with 401 horsepower. This powertrain works with GMC's six-speed automatic transmission. A 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8 is an option, getting you 445 horsepower and an impressive 910 pound-feet of torque. This engine uses a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
When equipped with the turbodiesel engine, dual rear axle, and rear-wheel drive, the Sierra 3500 can tow up to 35,500 pounds and carry up to 7,442 pounds in the bed. The gas engine can tow up to 17,200 pounds with a gooseneck trailer and up to 16,800 pounds with a regular hitch.
Interior
Inside, the Sierra 3500 has room for up to six people in the larger cabs. The base trim has vinyl seats and a split front bench seat, but just a step up to the SLE adds cloth upholstery and storage under the front seats. Upgrade to the SLT for leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a heated steering wheel, or choose the Denali for premium leather.
The technology in the Sierra 3500 starts with a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. GMC makes additional technology such as a Wi-Fi hot spot, 8-inch touch screen, 120-volt power outlet, and satellite radio available in the higher trims. If you bump up to the Denali, you can also get wireless charging, an upgraded stereo, navigation, and an upgraded driver information display.
Safety Features
Every Sierra 3500 comes with a rearview camera. For more advanced safety features, you can choose one of the higher trims. Many offer driver-assist systems as an option, but if you want these to come standard, the Denali comes with forward collision warning with mitigation, lane-departure warning, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. It also comes with a 360-degree surround-view parking system with a top-down view around the Sierra.
GMC also offers trailering cameras to make towing easier and safer. The Ultimate Package for the Denali comes with a rear camera mirror and a head-up display.
